Hello!
I’m Gary Kelly, an award winning graphic designer and art director with over two decades of experience, working across music, film, editorial design, and everything in between.
My clients have included U2, The Script, Leonard Cohen, Genesis, Sony Music, Columbia Records, Universal, BMG, Wim Wenders, Curzon Cinema, Harper Collins, The Abbey Theatre and many more.
Design has always been driven by the same thing for me – a genuine curiosity about the work in front of me and a determination to find the visual language that is true to it. Whether it is an album campaign for a major label, key art for a film or a book for a publisher, the approach does not change. Understand it fully. Then build something that does it justice.
Much of my early career was shaped by working with Steve Averill and Shaughn McGrath at Four5One Creative, one of Ireland's most respected design studios and the team behind every U2 album cover since the band’s inception. It’s an experience that still informs how I work today.
I also write and produce music for MOLYBARON, a band I founded and front, signed to Inside Out Music, part of Sony Music. We've played some of Europe's biggest festivals – Hellfest, Graspop and Rock Werchter – and toured Europe a few times, playing venues including the O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire in London and Elysee Montmartre in Paris.
Being an artist as well as a designer means the creative process is never abstract to me. I live it on both sides, which changes everything about how I approach a brief.
